In trying to figure out how to prevent the annoying snore sound, experts have said that the soft tissues in mouth that collapse when the body is relaxed, must not be allowed to block the airway from the throat. One way of achieving that is by moving the lower jaw a little forward. To keep the lower jaw at that position, the snoring mouthpiece is used. Before using it, people need to know how to mould it to fit their unique jaw shapes. Here’s a step by step approach to mould the mouthpiece and get the alignment right to fit your jaw.
Getting the Alignment Right
When shopping for snore aids, make sure that the packet says that the product is clinically approved. Once bought, the anti snore mouthpiece can be aligned to fit the jaw. There are some tiny pegs that can be used to adjust the position of the portion that latches onto the lower jaw. Initially, to get the alignment right, one must test placing the device on one’s jaw. After a few ‘trial and error’ rounds, the right alignment is achieved. Now the device is ready for the next step: the mould.
The Mould
When the perfect alignment has been achieved, the snore mouth guard needs to be softened up a little so that it can be used while sleeping without causing any discomfort. About 250ml of water, which is equivalent to four normal cups, is boiled and then cooled to a lukewarm temperature. The snoring mouthpiece is then placed in the water gently using the spatula shaped device that comes with the package. It is left submerged for an entire minute and then taken out. Once the warm device is out, let it cool for about ten seconds and move to the next step.
Fixing The Snoring Mouthpiece to Your Jaw
Once the device has been allowed to cool for ten seconds, take the mouthpiece and bite into it but not with too much pressure. When biting, do not let the lower jaw move into its normal position but keep it slightly forward. Hold on to this position for about a minute, then take the mouthpiece out and rinse it with cold water. This makes the mouthpiece retain this shape, so it becomes ready to use.
Once the desired shape has been formed, the stop snoring mouthpiece can be used for later use when you’re about to sleep. It is suggested that you place the mouthpiece in your jaw a few minutes before sleeping so as to allow your body to get used to the contraption.
